SALISBURY, MARYLAND — Community Farmacy proudly announces its achievement of PCAB accreditation, a service of ACHC, for the services of non-sterile compounding. The accreditation is awarded in recognition of the pharmacy’s commitment to meeting and/or exceeding national quality standards.

Achieving accreditation is a process where healthcare organizations demonstrate compliance with national standards. PCAB accreditation reflects an organization’s dedication and commitment to meeting standards that facilitate a higher level of performance and patient care.

“Community Farmacy is committed to delivering the highest quality compounded medications to the community in which we serve,” said owner Jeff Farace. “By achieving PCAB Accreditation, our customers can be assured that our organization follows industry best practices and is in compliance with the industry’s most stringent national standards.”

Compounding medications is an integral part of the practice of pharmacy and the demand for these customized medications increases every year. Compounded medications are prescriptions that are written by physicians, veterinarians, and other legally authorized prescribers and prepared for an individual patient by a specially trained pharmacist.

Established in 2007, PCAB was founded by eight of the nation’s leading pharmacy organizations to create voluntary quality accreditation designation for the compounding industry. The organization promotes, develops, and maintains principles, policies, and standards for improving the quality of pharmacy compounding nationwide. In 2014, PCAB accreditation became a service of Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), whereby ACHC administers the PCAB accreditation program. Owner Jeff Farace’s passion for compounding stemmed from a necessity to personalize medications for his own son. “I began compounding prescriptions when my son was diagnosed with autism and required specially-made prescription products. Since then, we have expanded our compounding services to provide combinations of medications and treatment options that aren’t available elsewhere.” Jeff stressed that the accreditation process, while rigorous, provides patients with the confidence to choose Community Farmacy for their compounding needs. “Our commitment to excellence and quality in compounding is evident in our achievement of this accreditation.”
